Hebrews 11:6 - But without faith it is impossible to please Him...
Hebrews 11:6 - But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (New King James)
The Greek word esti is translated he is. It is in the third person, which means God is not speaking directly in Hebrews 11:6; the writer is telling us what God said to him. If this verse was in the first person, if God was speaking directly, this verse would read: But without faith it is impossible to please Me, for he who comes to Me must believe that I AM , and that I am a rewarder of those who diligently seek me.
The word esti is the 3rd person singular of the word eimi which is the word translated I AM.
So God is saying in this verse that to please Him you must have faith that I AM.
The natural question to ask is, "I AM what?" The answer to that you only find by a carful, constant, reverent, dilgent, and prayerful study of God's Word.
We will look at the Bible for God's revelation of who He is and what "I Am" means. The Bible is a revelation; among its revelations is who God is. He has revealed Himself by His names and by Jesus Christ. We will look at meaning of the names Elohiym, Jehovah, El, El elyown, El Shadday, Jehovah rapha, Jehovah shalowm and others, Jehovah tsdaqah and others. All of these names are a revelaton of who God is.
Since Malachi 3:6 tells us, "For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed," then He is still Elohiym, Jehovah, El Elyown, El Shadday, Jehovah Rapha, Jehovah shalowm. However, you can't believe that He is, because you don't know what these names, titles, and declarations mean. Therfore you cannot please Him and you cannot receive the reward from Him.
